Lata lives in Villivakkam on the north side of chennai with her husband and children. In this slum over 300 people have sold their organs in the last ten years. She was originally contacted by a broker, but knowing that hte broker would cheat her out of her commission, she contacted the family directly and brokered her own deal. Her kidney sold for $1500. The girl who recieved it was 22 years old and died shortly after the transplant.
