L. Ramesh is a resident of the Aynavur slum on the north side of chennai. He was the only man I encountered who sold his kidney during my three month investigation. I interviewed at least 80 donors and all but Ramesh were women which shows the powerful gender component to the kidney trade. More often than not, women bear the brunt of the kidney trade.
